Abstrakt: The aim of this study investigation in relationship between the single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the gene interleukin-9(rs2069882) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in a sample of Iraqi patients. Cytokines lead an important and basically role in etiology and pathogenesis of (RA). Samples of blood were collected from patients with RA, about 50 samples (3 males and 47 females) and their average age was (51.23±11.264 years). In contrast, 50 blood samples were collected from healthy individuals as control group (13 males and 37 females) and their average age was (45.16±9.19 years). Analysis of Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (HWE) in RA patients and healthy individuals detected that the IL-9 genotypes were agree with the equilibrium and there are no exist clear differences between them (p >0.28,0.24) were watched between the observation and expected genotype frequencies. When analyzed IL9 genotype and allele frequencies in RA patients and healthy individuals detected that there no exist clear differences between these frequencies, even though a significantly low existence of frequency of A allele (22.22 vs. 30%) and an significantly raise frequency of G allele (77.78 vs. 70%) were watched in patients compared to healthy individuals. In conclusion, the results indicated that IL-9 gene SNP (rs2069882) is a risk factor with RA might have a role in the etiopathogenic mechanism in Iraqi population. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
