In the analysis of the quality of life (QoL) in patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD), different approaches can be applied. The subjective approach involves perceiving, understanding and assessing the impact of the disease on a patient basis due to the fact that objective factors are subjectively interpreted by the patient with chronic disease. The purpose of this study was to investigate the opinion of CVD patients on their QoL. Data analysis was performed on 203 polls conducted in hospitalized patients with CVD. We found a significant reduction in QoL in patients with chest pain (p <0.001), difficulty in breathing (p<0.001), and in patients with a limitation of day-to-day activity. Patients with a passive lifestyle gave an average assessment of their health while those with a more active lifestyle were divided into three separate groups -- with low, medium and high health assessments. We found no differences in QoL assessment depending on fatigue (p>0.05) but these patients more often reported sleeping problems (p=0.001), a loss of control over their lives (p=0.001), anxiety (p=0.001). Patients who were constantly thinking about their illness had less life satisfaction (p=0.002), with no differences in regards to whether patients were treated (p=0.091) or had a medical doctor who followed-up them (p=0.959). In conclusion, the QoL assessment can be used in clinical practice both to measure the quality of healthcare provided and to improve the condition of CVD patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
