Despite rapid advances in Web services, the user community's demanding requirements continue to outstrip available technology solutions. To help close this gap, Semantic Web Services advocates are defining and implementing many new and significant capabilities. The KaoS policy and domain services help with policy specification, analysis, disclosure, and enforcement for semantic Web services. The authors of this article describe these capabilities in the context of three applications: Grid Policy Management, Coalition Search and Rescue, and the Semantic Firewall.
