Abstrakt: The article presents information on the various political developments around the world during early 1880s. A report presents information on Great Britain and Russia. If war be declared between Great Britain and Russia, it is likely to be fiercely waged on sea, as well as on land, and to extend to the capture of the ships and cargoes that may be under the flag of the belligerents. Not yet does international law, or do treaties between Great Britain and Russia, exempt private property at sea from capture if belonging to citizens or subjects of the enemy and found under an enemy's flag. According to another report the absolute dullness of sterling exchange in the presence of excited markets for commodities and securities and of the prospect of a war between two great European Powers, may be explained by the fact that a large amount of money was transferred from New York to London some weeks ago in consequence of the silver scare.
