The purpose of this paper is to analyse the dynamic changes in the business model design process of start-up projects within and beyond an academic start-up accelerator. The authors investigated the business models of five start-up project teams at three discrete points in time over a four-month period to analyze the dynamic changes in the business model design process. This work should serve as a foundation for a longitudinal study in which each year about 20 teams are examined according to the same procedure. Subsequently, it is planned to investigate those teams who actually founded a business and entering the market to analyze the business model dynamics beyond the academic start-up accelerator program. The results of this work should highlight the process of how start-up projects develop their early business model and discover triggering factors which lead to changes in their business model.
