This article discusses the history of the development of Radio Navigation Satellite System (RNSS), presents the main characteristics of modern Global RNSS, as well as the main directions of its development. The first low-orbit RNSSs began to be created in the 60s of the last century as auxiliary systems for correcting the location of military consumers, primarily submarines, and were actively used for these purposes for three decades. The low accuracy of these systems, the impossibility of their use by consumers above sea level, as well as the availability of a navigation signal only for several minutes at intervals of one and a half to two hours, in the 70s, led to the deployment of work to create global RNSS, devoid of these shortcomings. Modern RNSSs are being created by an ever-increasing number of countries and are widely used by commercial and private civilian consumers, which allows not only to accelerate the delivery of goods, but also to increase transport safety.
