For Skanderbeg has written a large number of works in different fields. Books for the albanian prince began to appear in Western Europe in the early 16th century. One of the earliest stories of Skanderbeg's life and work is the History of Life and Gesture Skanderbeg, Epirotarum Principis written by Marin Barleti and published four decades after Skanderbeg's death. In the 16th and 17th centuries Barlet's book was translated into French by Jacques de Lavardin. Skanderbeg in French literature continues to be dealt in the poem of Pierre de Ronsard (1576), the poem Les Tragiques of Agrippa d'Aubigne and in Les Essais of Michel de Montaigne. The anecdote for Skanderbeg, Montaigne received from the book of Demetrius Frank, which was translated into French and published in 1544. The great ideologist of the French Enlightenment, Voltaire in his historical-philosophical work Essay on the Customs and the Spirit of the Nations (1756), states that: "if the Greek (Byzantine) emperors were like Skanderbeg, the East Empire would have stood on foot".
