Abstrakt: Oberstdorf, a once relatively small alpine village surviving thanks to agriculture, is currently one of the most important tourist centres in Germany. This is mainly due to the dynamic development of tourism at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The aim of this work is to show the essence and dynamics of tourism development in Oberstdorf, its impact on urban development, as well as opportunities for tourism and recreational sport. In addition, the participation of tourist recreational and tourism activity in Oberstdorf was studied and assessment of tourism development in this alpine city was conducted. In the work, the method of literature and document analysis is used. In addition, a special interview questionnaire was applied to inquire about tourists' opinions on the development of active tourism in Oberstdorf. The survey covered an adult group comprising 274 tourists (143 women and 131 men), staying in Oberstdorf in December 2018. The results of research showed dynamic development of tourism in Oberstdorf, as well as the large share of tourists in active tourism visiting this tourist destination. The most important activities included active forms of spending one's free time (skiing, winter excursions, visiting interesting places in the area). Tourists prefer pleasure, health and social encounters as motives for tourism and sport. In addition, they rated the Oberstdorf urban and tourist infrastructure highly. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
