Abstrakt: Electrostatic phenomena in an oil tank have been observed by hanging a field-meter from the left of the tank, or immersing a spherical probe electrode into the oil. However, by such traditional methods, it is impossible to derive an accurate value of electrostatic potential and field strength on the oil surface in large oil tanks because introducing the field-meter, or the spherical probe electrode and wiring cables into the tank, distorts lines of flux in the tank. This also causes leaks and dissipates a fraction of the charge density surrounding the probe electrode. To solve such problems as noted in the foregoing, this paper proposes a method for the direct measurement of field strength on the surface of oil in an oil tank, and presents the design of a telemetering field-meter.
