Various kinds or equipment have been installed to suppress the interference currents, including suction transformers, coaxial power cables, insulated rails and rail change-over switches which are operated synchronously with train position. The kinds of equipment have never been installed in the past in any railway. Voltage and current distributions can not be predicated unless we know the line constants that are affected by the rail, reinforcing steel bars of the tunnel and other shielding objects. To measure the line constants over the audio frequency range, field test have been conducted at the following three sites: (1) Keiyo railway line at Saginuma area, Chiba prefecture, where no metallic object is buried. (2) seafloor portion of Seikan tunnel of Tsugaru strait. (3) coaxial power cable route from the seafloor to ground surface. Measured data are carefully monitored by digital computer during measurement to minimize the effect of noise and measuring error. this research presents the measuring method and measured results.
