B INTRODUCTION: b Recent review articles have highlighted the association between CMV disease and increased mortality rates, prolonged mechanical ventilation, and effects on end-organs.1 Though rare, CMV myocarditis has been reported in immunocompetent individuals.2 Results available following patient's death showed CMV DNA was 1,121,104 copies/mL. B CONCLUSIONS: b Our patient would likely have benefited from introduction of antiviral following the initial elevated CMV titer although it did not meet the threshold for treatment in immunocompetent patients.
