| Abstrakt: | The Russian naval officer Faddej Faddeevich Bellingshausen began life with a slightly different surname, in his case 'Billingshausen'. It is possible to work out roughly when the Russian surname 'Bellinsgauzen' was chosen. Considerations prompting the selection of that particular Russian version can also be suggested.
