Abstrakt:	The article explores the Great Battles of the First Age, which is the heroic period in which most of author J.R.R. Tolkien's early legends are set, and the Great Battles in World War I (WWI). Topics discussed include overview of Tolkien's personal experience with World War I, comparison between Beowulf and Aragorn, one of the main protagonists of "The Lord of the Rings," and background on the First Battle and the inadvertent cost of the Battle of Verdun.
