Speedway Motors offers a complete line of crate engines that McCollough could have chosen from but he felt the mill nestled between the Nova's framerails needed to fit the nostalgia-gasser theme. McCollough conferred with Zach Woods, lead machinist at Speedway Motors' engine shop, and together they formulated a plan. McCollough asked Woods to play it safe with camshaft selection.
