Fine Australian wool in demand, major price rise forecast.

Abstrakt: This article forecasts a major rise in wool prices in 2004, with an expected shortage of the finer microns. Japan and the U.S. are finally buying up large stocks of suiting and wool fabric, which in turn is being reflected in the futures market, up to 10% on current prices. According to a wool agent in New South Wales, the shortage of fine wool is predicted in August and September. The suiting market in Japan has rise by 18% and also in the U.S. by 11%. Fine wool will also be in demand in Europe and China, according to a leading Italian fashion house. While China is buying more fine wool than ever before, Italy will remain the number one buyer of Australian wool at the European economy improves. Fine wool were strong at sales across Australia, but less demand for the broader microns was felt on the eastern market indicator, which finished just two cents higher, on 792 cents a kilo clean.
