In this article, I will focus on the possibilities of recycling aluminium chips and chips from aluminium alloys. Recycling can be divided into conventional recycling, by remelting the material, or the unconventional method of recycling it in its solid state, in which the chips can be transformed directly into dense bulk materials. The advantages of this method lie in lower energy consumption, reduced metal losses, almost no emissions of harmful gases and minimum waste. In the introduction I will introduce the method of recycling chips from aluminium alloys, mentioning different ways of both hot and cold recycling. The next section I will devote only to cold recycling. The influences on the quality of the resulting recycled product will be described. The quality is influenced by chip preparation and added additives. Another major influence on quality is the technology used and its parameters. I will describe in more detail only a few methods of cold recycling. The flow of the chip recycling process will be described in cold recycling based on powdered metallurgy. In conclusion, I will assess the benefits of cold recycling. The fact that the method of recycling cold aluminium has great potential for the sustainability of the production of aluminium products and its alloys, is reflected in the amount of research carried out and the publications on this issue.
