Abstrakt: The article exemplifies how a small but empowered cohort of Jewish activists and refugees endeavored to make sense of the ongoing violence and destruction in Europe and to adjust their politics and identities to an uncertain future. It mentions community of Czech- or Czechoslovak-Jewish refugees in New York City as standing at the crossroads of three worlds. It also mentions Jews had developed in response to emancipation, nationalism and rise of new nation states in Central and Eastern Europe.
