Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles were successfully prepared by laser ablation in liquid. A pellet of micro size ZnO was used as a target immersed in ethanol. To study the effects of varying energies, three different energies (200, 400, and 600 mJ) of 200 laser pulses in ethanol were used. Structural, morphological and optical properties were studied. The X-ray diffraction proved the preparation of pure ZnO with hexagonal crystallization with presence of Zn metals in some samples. Micrographs by scanning electron microscopy showed that ZnO has grown as nanocluster. The optical properties showed an enhancement in absorption spectra when dense and small ZnO nanoparticles were prepared. The energy gap was also studied and found to be between (3.5-4.5 eV).
