Abstrakt: This article presents a preface to a portfolio of photographs. It notes that one can easily alter the perception of place by changing one's orientation and perspective, repositioning oneself on the two-dimensional ground plane. Photographs are not read as linear text and their visual language is universal. Whatever information a photograph contains is all right there and comes at a person from different points and patterns within the photograph. The aerial photographs are rich in content because they are simultaneously cartographic and illustrative, combining the ground plane with elevations. The aerial perspective is unique in its ability to reveal spatial relationships that cannot be seen from the ground and that more clearly inform one's vision of the future.
