Abstrakt: A field experiment was carried out to assess the Cry protein expression in Bt cotton hybrids as influenced by nutrient management based on target yield under medium deep black soils at the Main Agricultural Research Station, Dharwad, Karnataka during kharif, Rabi season of 2012-13 and 2013-14 under assured rainfall conditions. Results revealed that Mallika BG-II recorded significantly higher Cry 1Ac and Cry 2Ab protein content in leaf at 60, 90 and 120 days after sowing (DAS) (Cry 1 Ac of 3.53, 2.20 and 1.67 µg g-1 fresh weight and Cry 2Ab of 59.0, 42.1 and 29.9 µg g-1 fresh weight, respectively) as compared to other Bt cotton hybrids. Application of nutrients for the target yield of 4.0 t ha-1 (195:100:200 NPK kg ha-1) recorded significantly higher Cry 1Ac and Cry 2Ab protein content in leaf at 60, 90 and 120 DAS (Cry 1Ac: 3.78, 2.35 and 1.83 µg g-1 fresh weight and Cry 2Ab: 61.7, 44.0 and 32.7 µg g-1 fresh weight, respectively) as compared to other levels of nutrients applied based on target yield. Among the different treatment combinations, in pooled data Mallika Bt with application of nutrients for the target yield of 4.0 t ha-1 (195:100:200 kg NPK ha-1) recorded significantly higher Cry 1Ac and Cry 2Ab protein at 60, 90, and 120 DAS (Cry 1Ac: 3.78, 2.35 and 1.83 82 µg g-1 fresh weight and Cry 2Ab: 63.1, 45.2 and 33.8 µg g-1 fresh weight, respectively) as compared to other treatment combinations.
