Abstrakt: The article critiques the 1865 novel "Iracema, Legend of Ceará," by José de Alencar. Topics discussed include the way the author featured landscapes of the Brazilian state of Ceará while depicting a love affair between the protagonists, the patriarchal society of Brazil in the mid-1800s acknowledged in the novel, and the themes addressed by de Alencar in the narrative such as the flora and fauna species of Ceará in addition to the nature conservation policy of the region.
