Abstrakt: The aim of the study was to characterize the physical effort and the pace of restitution after the effort in sled horses, working in the mountains on the route to Morskie Oko, in years 2015-2018. Control examination of heart rate was performed on 1164 horses before exercise, immediately after work and after 15-20 minutes of rest. The analysis of the effort was made using the restructuring efficiency index (WSR), according to the formula: (t2 - t3 / t2 - t1) x 100%, where t1 means the frequency of heart contractions at rest, before exercise, t2 - the frequency immediately after work, t3 - the frequency after 15-20 minutes of restitution. On the basis of this analysis, it can be concluded that the average sledging work on the route to Morskie Oko, (distance from Palenica, 980m, to Wlosienica, 1315m above sea level, ASL, is approx. 7 km.), was a very forceful effort for 11.8% horses, a strenuous effort for 30% horses, a moderate effort for 39.5% horses and lightweight effort for 8.1% horses. It is believed that the main reasons for reduced exercise capacity in some working horses could be their poor selection or insufficient health conditions for sledging in the mountains, as well as the latent health problems and the incorrect forging and fitting of the harness.
