Introduction: Glass-ionomer cements and resin-modified glass-ionomers could be optimal orthodontic adhesives if they can provide adequate bonding strength. The aim of this study was to compare the shear bond strength of two orthodontic adhesives: Fuji Ortho LC and Transbond XT. Materials & Methods: In this in vitro study, 32 sound extracted premolars were divided into two equal groups (n = 16). Brackets were bonded with Fuji Ortho LC in group 1 and Transbond XT in group 2. After 72 hours their shear bond strengths were measured; then the samples were analyzed under a stereomicroscope at ×10 and debonding locations were scored using Adhesive Remnant Index. Data were analyzed with t-test (α = 0.05). Results: The mean shear bond strength values in groups 1 and 2 were 7.73 and 16.79, respectively, with no significant difference (p value < 0.001). Considering the debonding location, the most frequent score was score 3 (between 10% and 90% of the adhesive remaining on the tooth surface). Conclusion: The shear bond strength of Fuji Ortho LC was less than that of Transbond XT, but still in an acceptable range for orthodontic bonding. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
