The present work studies the proposals on the impersonal verbs registered in the grammars of the Portuguese language, published during the XVI and XVII centuries, as well as its relation with the theory adopted in this respect by the most important Latin-American grammarians of the Iberian Peninsula (Antonio de Nebrija, Manuel Álvares and Francisco Sánchez de las Brozas). For this purpose, a corpus constituted by the following works is analyzed: the Grammatica da lingua portuguesa (Lisbon 1540) by João de Barros, the Origem da lingoa portuguesa (Lisbon 1606) by Duarte Nunes de Leão, the Methodo grammatical para todas as linguas (Lisbon 1619) and the Recopilaçam da grammatica portuguesa, e latina (Lisbon 1619) and the Ars grammaticae pro lingua lusitana addiscenda (Lyon 1672) by Bento Pereira.
