This article explains why Paolo Sorrentino's La grande bellezza (The Great Beauty) (2013) and Youth (2015) can be considered a form of ecocinema as they portray a posthuman subjectivity able to produce an alternative relationship between humans and the environment. This posthuman subjectivity emerges through the representation of humans who find themselves entangled with an environment that they cannot control or even comprehend, but who also witness the possibility of existing beyond a fallacious nature/culture dichotomy. From these films a different connection between humans and the biosphere is constructed that allows the audience to reconsider the dogmatic aspect of humans' complete understanding and dominance over nature. This posthuman awareness emerging from Sorrentino's representation of the human condition might inspire us to examine the ethical and political role that we have as agents of global transformation in the Anthropocene epoch.
