A study of the anti-formulaic and potentially comedic editing of All the Devil's Men. The death of nearly all of the cast of a film typically signifies a tragedy, but pointless slaughter has been used in dark comedies and satires to inspire release of pent up desires, if not a laugh. The analysis describes the presentation of the War of Terror's contracted mercenaries, questioning if their greed and ruthlessness is being lightly satirized in this plotline, or if this is another example of a propagandistic military film. Have weapons-of-mass-destruction ticking-bomb suspense-building plot twists been overused to the point of absurdity? Laura Little and Sigmund Freud's explanations for the "release theory" of humor are utilized in the philosophical discussion. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
