Highlights from the article: Martin Buckley's piece "E's company for Marcos" (C&SC, April) suggested that an E-type Jaguar and a Marcos 3-Litre were unlikely bedfellows, and indeed he's right - they come at the question of what makes a sports car from totally different directions. Buckley suggests that the Marcos was more "subversive" and "renegade" than an Elan - in which case a Marcos should be worth twice as much! That said, the fact remains that the Marcos is the only affordable sports car of the day to stay with a well-driven Elan - but you'd need a 3-Litre to stay with the 1600cc Lotus, which explains why there was a demand for Twin-Cam transplants into Marcos 1500s in the 1970s. It is a car that can be maintained by people who have a little mechanical ability, just about everything is available, and it will surprise a lot of modern-car drivers if you're in the mood. |
