Abstrakt: Aluminum (Al) is the most abundant metal in nature that is not known to perform a physiological function of the human organism. Accumulation of aluminum in the body can cause toxicity to development and growth in early life. The mechanism of Aluminum toxicity primarily by increasing oxidative stress and finally leads to cell death. Centella asiatica (CeA) as commonly consumed is a plant that has 84% antioxidant, but whether it is able to prevent developmental disruption due to oxidative stress aluminum-induced exposure has never been investigated. In this study, we examined the effect of ethanolic extract of CeA to teratogenicity, development, and growth in the early life of zebrafish. We observed the survival rate, hatching rate, body length, ossification of cartilage, heart rate and motility used zebrafish from 0 hpf (hour post fertilization) until 6 dpf (day post fertilization) which consist of 5 groups (control, AlCl3 50 μM, AlCl3+CeA 1,25 μg/ml, AlCl3+CeA 2,5 μg and AlCl3+CeA 5 μg/ml). We found that CeA significantly protects the toxicity of Aluminum in zebrafish larvae developmental and growth by protect the structure and physiology of the organ during embryonic development.
