The article presents the case of Jim Denson, an African American, who has been convicted in Wilkinson County, Missouri, of the rape of a white woman seventy years old. No defense whatever had been made for the prisoner. The judge had indeed appointed a. lawyer to defend him, but this lawyer had contented himself with saying that the defense had nothing to say. His case was slowly carried up, from court to court. Every authority having jurisdiction steadily refused his application for a new trial. On June 14, 1924, he was hanged. |
