Abstrakt: This article literally appraises the book "The Plutocrat," by Booth Tarkington. The American business man, as everyone knows, has been the butt of recent American writing. His backslapping, his complacency, and his belief in money as the root of all good have been fair game for satire. After the punishment he has taken he is entitled to a defense, and in "The Plutocrat" Booth Tarkington appears as the barbarian's knight with plenty of stabs at the self-conscious aesthetes, he plans to reveal the boisterous, unselfconscious Illinois manufacturer, who has made himself a power in his city, as frankly a barbarian but a great one.
