The U.S. Army ran an extremely popular information and educational center for the people of Tokyo, Japan, during the occupation. It was almost always crowded; students brought along their rice and chopsticks, polished off a fast meal at noon without interrupting their reading, and stayed on for afternoon study. After the occupation ended, the center was transferred to the American embassy and was renamed the American Cultural Center. Japan and its internal politics are also part of the world picture. |
