Abstrakt: The use of pliers as medical devices is important to give precision and accuracy during surgery. In this study, a new design of medical pliers has been developed by modifying the functions from either bending only or cutting-orientation only to the combination of bending and cutting orientation. Therefore, the design was simulated by observing the stress analysis, the properties prediction with the variation in the number of loading, and the material selection (i.e., stainless steel, aluminum, and titanium). The results showed that the medical plier with bending and cutting-mixed functions was able to hold a load of 25 N. This was considered handy during surgery. The result showed that using one load, the lowest Von Mises stress was 26.02 MPa. Meanwhile, the Von Mises stress using two loads on the titanium material was 25.23 MPa. The lowest displacement values were 0.11 mm using one load and 0.09 mm using two loads on stainless steel material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
