Fire fighting has been one of the most important tasks for mankind throughout its history. This paper is devoted to the research of the historical source created in the early 20th century in the city of Kharkiv, namely the Charter of the Voluntary Fire Brigade of the Helfferich-Sade Factory. Analyzing the articles of the above-mentioned document makes it possible not only to clarify the goals, the structure, the responsibilities and the organizational principles of a particular factory brigade, but also to understand the way in which such fire brigades were organized throughout the Russian Empire at the turn of the century.
