The article discusses evidence regarding the interrelation of apotropaic texts and images of Jesus Christ as the Man of Sorrows with the Arma Christi, or the Instruments of the Passion, in handwritten and printed textual amulets of the 15th century. It presents a transcription and translation of a Catalan textual amulet from the period believed to give supernatural protection and healing to its bearer. It also discusses the association of the Arma Christi imagery with divine protection. |
