Abstrakt: The article discusses various books. The books discussed here deal with various phases of perhaps the four most urgent problems of Spanish America, education, imperialism, social reform legislation and a reorientation of their culture. Education is here placed first, not because Spanish Americans so place it, but because it is fundamental to all their other problems. Some books are "Los Dogmas, La Ensenanza y el Estado," by Pedro Ceruti Crosa and Julio C. Grauert, "La Universidad y la Vida," by Juan B. Terán, "La Universidad Nacional de la Plata en el Año 1926," "La Autarquia de las Universidades," and "Cuestiones Universitarias," by Rafael Bielsa, "Universidad y Democracia," and "La Sombra de la Casa Blanca," by Alfredo L. Palacios. Ceruti and Grauert's Dogmas, Education and the State is a pica for complete state control over education and for the abolition of church and other private schools. The argument of these two young university educators of Montevideo is penetrating, able and learned and also courageous. Their thesis is that only the state can get rid of the various dogmas which now afflict the schools and establish a scientific criterion. There is an able discussion of the political, social and educational aspects of the question. This is a book that our educators could read with profit.
