Abstrakt: Cancer is the leading cause of death among U.S.-born Hispanic/Latinos. Issues confronting these cancer survivors and their families are complex and include physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and financial concerns from the time of diagnosis throughout the remainder of the survivor's life. However, cancer survivors who are also immigrants living in the United States often face additional challenges being a cancer survivor related to cultural beliefs, language, access to care, and socioeconomic status. Therefore, this chapter describes the results of a scoping review of research published over the past decade and focused on cancer survivors who are adult immigrants of Hispanic/Latino ethnicity living in the United States. This method provided a rigorous and transparent method for mapping published research retrieved through three major databases and for identifying existing gaps. Of the 951 references that were initially identified, 18 studies from 2008 to 2017 met the inclusion criteria. Four major themes were identified through thematic analysis: (1) survival patterns (n = 2); (2) barriers (n = 5); (3) decision-making (n = 2); and (4) quality of life (QOL; n = 9). Results offer evidence to guide informed, patient-centered care and culturally appropriate interventions tailored to the needs of Hispanic/Latino immigrants. Finally, findings can be used by nurses to guide future oncology research about this vulnerable and underserved population of cancer survivors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
