In the academic world the occupational hazards of left-wing political activity are frequently severe. Heads may fall, and there is no workmen's compensation. In most places student "radicals" ate suppressed after they have indulged in some sharp act of defiance, some daring disregard of constituted authority, but at Ann Arbor, Michigan, severe punishment has been meted out to a group guilty of no recent or striking provocation. Twelve students at the University of Michigan have been "denied readmission" and four others have been warned in a cold, calculated effort to silence a sizable group by the decapitation of a few. |
