Abstrakt: The canal colonization in Bahawalpur was influenced by the extensive schemes of human settlements on canal lands in the British Punjab by which the agricultural communities of Punjab were settled on the wastelands in the province. During the first half of the twentieth century, the system of perennial canals proved a considerable step forwarded in extending the cultivation towards the barren lands of the princely state of Bahawalpur. This paper addresses two important questions. What was the procedure of settling the colonists in the Bahawalpur colony and what was the result of that process in the agricultural sphere of the newly opened agrarian frontier. However, the colonization in Bahawalpur was distinct in a way that it was an interrelationship of the farming skills and agrarian practices of both the British India and the princely India. This paper is mainly based on published and unpublished official reports. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
