The archival collection of Bratislava City Archive includes amanuscript draft providing documentary evidence of the first attempt to found a medical society in Bratislava. The manuscript dated in 1764 was written by Bratislava's municipal physician and well-known author of pharmacopoeial literature Jan Justus Torkoš (1699 - 1770). One of his main professional aims was to improve quality of provided health care in that time capital of Hungary as well as in the whole country. This manuscript represents an important record documenting the first known attempt to constitute a body directly regulating activities of physicians working in Hungary. The study also contains the first complete transcript and translation of the document. The authors put it into the context of Torkoš's work and emphasize its importance in the field of development of medical care in the second half of the 18th century in Hungary.
