Abstrakt: Graphene oxide (GO) was used as a support for manganese oxide (MnO2) for the preparation of a nanocomposite catalyst for the degradation of an azo dye, Reactive Black 5 (RB5). The nanocomposite was characterized for the structure by XRD, for the morphology with SEM, and for the surface chemistry with FTIR and potentiometric titration measurements. The GO-MnO2 nanocomposite presented a high catalytic activity for the degradation/oxidation of RB5 at ambient conditions, which was higher than that of the pure MnO2 and could be attributed to the beneficial contribution of the manganese oxide and the graphene oxide.
