Abstrakt: The creation of socially involved space, both on an architectural and urban scale, has become one of the determinants of contemporary design in recent years. Designing areas that will meet additional social goals is often associated with widening of the group of people involved in its creation. One of the possible models is connected with using local participation as a method of creating a functional space. Examples of activities that were undertaken in 2014-2017 during cyclical architectural workshops in the villages of: Wójtowice in Bystrzyckie Mountains and Pasterka in Stołowe Mountains will present mechanisms leading to creating a model of cooperation between local self-government authorities, private foundations and a university educating future architects. They are aimed at creating a new quality of space for solving the most important social problems of local communities. Supporting local, bottom-up initiatives, building local integration centers, creating a model of socially activating and integrating their inhabitants in a difficult life situation also requires creating a specific form of not only shaping not only interpersonal relations, but also a space that simultaneously preserves and develops the characteristic features of local architecture, and which is connected in an inseparable way connecting with the complex cultural tradition of the border areas of Poland, Germany and the Czech Republic.
