The paper describes the method of obtaining and optical properties of quantum dots CdS synthesized in a carbon matrix. In recent years, great attention has been paid to the development of new technologies for the production of high-quality and stable quantum dots on the basis of semiconductor materials in solid- state matrices of different types and the study of their luminescence characteristics. Each of the matrices has its advantages and disadvantages, therefore an important task is to find a matrix that prevents undesirable agglomeration of particles and reduction of the quantum yield of luminescence when introduced into a solid composite material. The most important feature of semiconductor quantum dots is the dependence of the energy of the electrons and holes excited in them, based on their size – the so-called quantum-dimensional effect.
