This essay brings recent work surrounding the internet phenomenon of the Slender Man into conversation with emerging work in critical literary theory. Specifically, the Slender Man is considered alongside Jeffrey Nealon's Post-Postmodernism; or, the Cultural Logic of Justin- Time Capitalism (2012), his diagnosis of contemporary cultural logic, and his consideration of Gilles Deleuze's "powers of the false" in art and literature after postmodernism. This essay explores the ways in which the Slender Man phenomenon reifies these powers, and ultimately argues that the Slender Man helps to elucidate Nealon's vision and definition of "postpostmodern" cultural expression.
