The article examines the ideal properties of a placebo for nerve block trials. It notes that the optimal placebo would mimic the subjective symptoms of an anesthetic nerve block without exerting a biologic effect, at the desired time point of clinical trial primary outcome assessment. It adds that physiologic effect on nerve function can be examined with bedside clinical modalities, or potentially by measuring greater auricular sensory conductions. |
