Last July, three months after the Beacon Press of Boston, Massachusetts had brought out the book "American Freedom and Catholic Power," by Paul Blanshard, 14,000 copies had been sold far more than the average nonfiction book sells in a year despite the fact that the American press had given it the silent treatment. While the blackout has been lifted here and there since July, most of the press has still failed to mention the book, choosing to ignore what was clearly the publishing sensation of the past year. |
