A complex of performance characteristics of Ti-B-C coatings formed by the method of electron-beam treatment in the air atmosphere is investigated. No pores or cracks are found in the cladded surface-alloyed layers. The structure is characterized by carbide- and boride-phase particles uniformly distributed in the titanium matrix. The microhardness of the formed surface-alloyed layers reaches 5 650 MPa. The investigation of the coatings for oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures has shown that an increase in the mass of the samples containing titanium carbide and boride particles decreases by a factor of 6 at 900 °C compared with commercially pure titanium. However, electron-beam cladding of powders containing boron carbide leads to a reduction in the impact strength by a factor of 1.4 in comparison with the base material. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
