The structure and mechanical properties of welded joints of 17Mn1Si pipe steel after modification by means of surface ultrasonic impact straining as well as combined pulsed mechanical-electrophysical treatments have been studied. Welded joint specimens were cut out of steel plates from the heat affected zone and from the center of the weld. It is shown that the proposed treatment technique ensures hardening of the surface layer, as well as increasing the yield strength under static tension. Impact toughness tests for the specimens (i) without a weld (as supplied state), (ii) with a welded joint, and (iii) after the modifications by two techniques were carried out at a room and negative T = –70°C temperatures. The differences in the structure and deformation behavior of the specimens subjected to different kinds of treatment are revealed and discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
