Abstrakt: In order to study the basic performance of the superconducting generator in an actual electric power system, a quick response excitation-type generator was connected to the 77-kV commercial power grid of Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. In the test, the model machine was operated as a rotary condenser supplying about leading 40 M Var to the electric power system. In the tests, the model machine operated stably. The results show that the superconducting generator has effects for stabilizing voltage fluctuations of electric power systems and also for reducing shunt reactor. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
