Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine and assess the empathic tendencies in terms of some variables among the students who studied at the school of physical education and sports. Method: The sample of the study was composed of 327 students (143 female students %43,73 and 184 male students %56,27) who studied at the Schools of Physical Education and Sports and whose mean age was 21.88±2.01. The general screening model which is one of the descriptive research methods was used in this research. The data collection tool was composed of three parts: The first part "Personal Information Form" included the questions about the students' personal information. And the second part included "The Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI)" used to measure empathic tendency of the candidate teachers. For the analyses of the data; Portable IBM SPSS Statistics v20 package software was used. Since there is not a normal distribution of the data non-parametric tests were performed. Mann-Whitney U test was used in pairwise comparison to explore whether or not empathic tendency and psychological needs of the students differed in terms of personal characteristics while Kruskal Wallis statistical method was used for multiple comparisons. Significance level was accepted as 0.05. Findings: It was found out that mean scores obtained from "The Interpersonal Reactivity Index (IRI)" used to determine the empathic tendency of the students were as follows: Fantasy Scale; 20,23±4,22, Empathic Concern: 21,68±3,32, Perspective-Taking: 22,36±3,73, Personal Distress: 19,35±4,83. Result: It was found out that there were significant differences among the students in terms of grades, gender and age (p<0.05). It was seen that the female students had more empathic tendency levels as compared with those male students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
