Abstrakt: The article describes the trajectory of the society's transition to sustainable development as a basis for environmental and economic security. The authors analyze the experience in the development and use of indicators of sustainable development, which are necessary not only for assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of scientific and technological progress and the development of economic systems, but also for forecasting and managing the transition to sustainable development. The systems of sustainable development indicators developed by the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development, OECD and the World Bank are considered. The authors propose their classification based on the analysis of international and Russian experience in developing indicators of sustainable development. In the selection of indicators a particular problem is the degree of their aggregation. Having considered the most common aggregated indicators of sustainable development, the authors conclude that the integrated index of the "Adjusted netsavings" of the World Bank is considered as the most developed in theoretical terms, with a good statistical base and calculation capabilities.
